The Moving Costs

Posted by on Jun 8, 2010 | 3 comments

Rental Truck: $286
The truck was rented through Budget for one-way (DC to NC), with unlimited use for three days. Compared to other moving truck companies, this was a pretty good deal. My parents offered to pay for this, but I could afford it and told them just to cover the gas and we’ll call it even.

Truck Insurance: $104
At first I wasn’t going to get insurance, but the more I thought about it, the more nervous I got. If there happen to be an accident, it cost me thousands upon thousands of dollars. Insurance? $104. Peace of Mind? Priceless.

Gasoline: $42.40
Truck gas: My parents graciously paid.
My car’s gas: $42.40

Breakfast: $9.64
Cheap breakfast, eh? What can I say, the moving crew was easy to please with coffee and Chickfila biscuits.

TOTAL COSTS: $442.04

I paid for these expenses using my June paycheck from my former job, which is the usual monthly $2465. I should also get my $675 security deposit back from my old apartment, but I’m waiting to hear form my old landlord on that (he BETTER pay us!). My budget is kind of on hold until June 15, when I should receive my new job paycheck, and from there I’ll report on what I plan to save, spend, etc. So glad this hassle is behind me!

Impatient Rambles & Spending Report

Posted by on May 17, 2010 | 1 comment

I feel like I have earned an award for being The Most Impatient Person Ever.  For some reason two weeks just cannot come fast enough! I blame myself… as soon as I decided to move two weeks ago I got boxes and packed up everything but the bare essentials. It’s taken me two years to get here, you’d think two weeks would be easy enough? Wrong. These days are dragggggging. I’m actually thankful today is Monday because I have a whole work week to distract me.

It may have something to do with seeing that mouse/rat again in my apartment! Originally I thought it was a sign from God to help me make my decision, but it turns out that was a little narcissistic of me to presume. The furry creature was sighted last night by my roommate peeping out of the couch next to my feet, which turned both of us into a frenzy of girly hysterics. We put four traps around the couch last night, but this morning I just don’t have the energy or stomach to check them right now and I’ll just wait for after work.

In other news, I went shopping this past weekend! I know, I shouldn’t be shopping when I’m about to move, but a new job is a good excuse for new clothes, right? Plus, I want to take advantage of having an outlet mall close by since I won’t have that chance in 11 days. I got a dress ($18), a bathing suit ($10 after coupon), a necklace ($7), a huge hat for the pool (yep, I’m that girl-$7), sandals ($8), shorts ($10), a sweater wrap that I’ll be thankful I bought come September ($10) and a girly headband ($8). Pretty good, I’d say! Here are some other things I’ve bought in the last two weeks:

Have a delightful weekend!

Posted by on Apr 30, 2010 | 0 comments

Greetings my dear friends!

A great apology for the lack of posts this week. My thoughts have been preoccupied and life has been rather busy. Since I was out of town the last two weeks, I plan to take it easy this weekend and catch up on friendships and a little housekeeping. On a financial note, I spent a lot of money in the last two weekends with my trips away, but I think April will turn out to be a decent month… and May will be even better. ;)

Beginning Balance: $146.50

Income:
+170 from savings (I had transfered a lot in the beginning of the month to prepare for end-of-month expenses)

Expenses:
-$49.18 cable
-$41.97 electric
-$12.78 coffees for both weekends
-$45.11 dining
-$82.20 gasoline
-$65.28 groceries
-$18.50 parking at airport

Ending Balance: $1.48

That’s right—I am ending April with a total of $1.48 in my budget. You may think that’s bad news, but really that means I’ve met my budget and have a dollar and a half to spare. Cha-ching!

Have a delightful weekend… and happy PAYDAY!

The Emergency Fund is well on it’s way!
