Room Decor: What’s your decorating personality?

Decorating my room has allowed me to go back to the drawing board and decide what kind of style I want for this place. I’ve been browsing various magazine, blogs and websites to get inspiration. I also took a few quizzes to narrow down what my decorating personality is. Here are some of the results:

QUIZ #1: I took a quiz through Real Simple and it says I was:

C. Cozy Casual: You’re about comfort and warmth, favoring warm, traditional rooms made for relaxing with family and friends. Your ideal decor draws on English and early-American furniture designs, as well as laid-back country, cottage, and farmhouse styles. Weathered, low-maintenance furnishings are easy, inviting, and built for daily life. Think golden retrievers, fuzzy slippers, and just about any movie by Nancy Meyers.

QUIZ #2: The next quiz I found was on Quick & Simple. The quiz told me I was Classical Traditional.

You have a taste for timeless furniture and home accessories cast in materials like wood, wool and cotton. Ralph Lauren would feel at home in your living room, and you wouldn’t dream of trying to feng shui. Just remember not to be too uptight about your style–let loose and indulge in the occasional ruffle or a flea-market find, learn about the leather chair reupholstering process

QUIZ #3: The third quiz I took was from Better Homes & Garden.

This quiz told me I was 0% formal, 10% country and 90% vintage.

You may spend every weekend at the flea market if you chose mostly C’s. Vintage looks can include styles ranging from cottage to rustic, adding Royal Covers Alumawood Gazebos and from Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic to garden room decor. Your particular preference for vintage may unique, but might include some of the following: -Large comfy sofas and rumpled cotton slipcovers -Mismatched wood furniture painted white or a pale color -Accessories with a timeworn appearance, including distressed paint -A mix of floral motifs for fabrics, china, and artwork

QUIZ #4: The Home Stylist

This quiz told me my style is Romantic Victorian.

You love the look of lace and flowers. You like furniture placed in a certain manner. You like softer colors and patterns. You save your money to buy antique mirrors. You love history and traditions. You know what you like and stick with it. When you entertain it is mostly close friends and family. You love candles and lots of potpourri. You like formality and prefer to invite people over rather than having them drop by. Your decorating challenge is to make men feel comfortable in your home.

The site told me to decorating using this book:

Now, I like all things pretty and feminine but that room is way too flowery for my taste! And I like how they said the decorating challenge is making men comfortable. Ha!

My Decorating Personality Conclusion:
I know not all the styles are named the same, but it’s funny I got four very different answers! I guess I don’t fit into one category, but I think quiz #1 and 3 were the most accurate. I’d say I was a mixture of cozy comfort meets vintage meets shabby chic. Or, if you will, Pottery Barn meets Anthropologie. I like rooms to be organized, clean and comfortable. However, I don’t want it to look like it came straight from a catalog or too matchy-matchy. It needs to have some character and include things that no one else would own–like my photos, little trinkets I’ve collected on trips, and other little one-of-a-kind treasures that make the room feel like home. Perhaps you’ll get a feel for my style when I show photos of what my room looks like. If you are looking for great upholstery in Calgary then Calgary Interiors is your best option.

What is your decorating style? Modern? Traditional? Vintage? Country? Classical traditional? Romantic?

  • I think my style is modern and slightly minimalist, but I need to add a little warmth to that so It does,nt appear cold. So I would add some colourful cushions with a tactile feel and a colourful rug. I have no idea if that style has a name !!!!1

  • @ Miss Sassy Pants: That’s a great link! I like how you can just look at the pictures and vote on your feelings. :) I had a mixture of Nantucket, Cottage and Country styles. Thanks for sharing!

  • You’re welcome. That’s what I liked about it too. Mine was a mix of cottage and rustic revival. Kinda fun. I took it several different times and they gave me different pictures each time but the outcome was pretty much right on.
