The Happy Pounds

Remember that old Bridal Bootcamp I was doing back in the spring? Where I would exercise a minimum of 4 times a week? And count my calories? And remember how I reached my goal weight for the wedding?

Well, since then I’ve gotten a little lazy. Like, really lazy. Like gaining-EIGHT-pounds-in-the-last-five-months lazy.

My best friend Allison calls it the Happy Pounds. And boy was it happy: a decadent honeymoon of mixed drinks and seafood. A whole season of attending weddings and parties. And then summertime laziness of barbecues and potluck dinners….

Well, this careless newlywed eating needs to end now. I had one of those terrible moments the other day when it was a struggle to button up my favorite jeans—the same jeans that just five months ago I could shimmy down my hips.

So what’s my brilliant, hard-core plan to lose this weight, you ask? I’m going to keep it very simple. Starting this Friday, all I will do is just report to you guys what I have done for the week. Even if the answer is “I ate horribly and didn’t work out once,” just knowing I’ll have to write that in public will motivate me during the week. I look forward to sharing my results with you all! :)

What keeps you motivated when you are trying to lose weight? What is your favorite exercise activity?

  • I gained 18 pounds during my first year of marriage! I am now down 11 pounds, with 7 more to go, but man oh man, it is TOUGH! Good luck to you and good for you for noticing now before it gets to be too late! :D

  • The promise of grandchildren is what motivates me. I want to be healthy to enjoy them when they arrive (but not too soon!). I’ve lost about 10 pounds since last year, but have at least 10 more to go.

  • If it makes you feel any better, I gained 11lbs in the past month… I’m pregnant and all, but still, 11lbs!!?!?! Ugh! Can’t wait until I can start trying to lose weight!

  • I think the public announcement definitely would motivate me…i think just knowing i don’t want to weight like 200lbs when i am pregnant…motivates me REGULARLY! but i do need to be consistent with my eating and work-outs!

  • I gained 10 pounds in my first year of marriage and I am now down 5. I was really upset about it too because I didn’t even gain weight in college! But I realized I was trying to eat similar amounts to my husband when I cooked which was ridiculous. I started by working out, but that didn’t help too much. Then I started counting calories to 1500 and lost 2 pounds in a few weeks. Then I did the 3 day diet to jumpstart my metabolism and that really worked! Good luck!

  • I will be happy to find this publish very helpful personally, mainly because it is made up of lot of information. I had heard your problems but we have similarities too. I had a heavy weight before but I realized that I should loss weight and have a discipline. Thank you for expressing!
