The Time I Chopped off All My Hair

Last Friday I chopped off my hair to donate to Locks of Love. It’s one of my items on my 30 before 30 list, and it truly was a liberating feeling saying goodbye to those thick locks. I decided I needed to do it soon after looking at this photo from my New York trip:

Yikes! Look how long that hair is! Too long, if you ask me. And running in the 90-degree North Carolina heat? Don’t even think about it. My thick ponytail was like a blanket on my back the last time I ran outside.

So here’s the new short hair. :) What do you think?

Have you ever donated your hair before? Do you prefer your hair long or short?

  • wow!! It looks great. Donating to Locks of Love is on my to-do list too, but I don’t know if I have the guts for it. My hair is down to my elbows now and I’d like to give 10 inches but I’m so attached to my hair = lol

  • It’s getting on time for me to do the same, actually. My hair’s down my back to nearly my waist because I have no time or inclination to find a stylist and the last trim I had was six months ago. :| Haven’t ever donated before because I always thought it had to be a certain length but I’d like to, if the layers aren’t a problem.

  • Looks great. When I was a new teacher (2nd year), I donated 20 inches in a contest to raise money for a student battling cancer. It was a drastic change for me–but I want to do it again.

  • Hi Ginna, it’s lovely. Don’t know if it has anything to do with the smile you have on you face in the “after” photo, but it’s really a refreshing change.
My hair’s getting a bit long and I end up tying it up all the time. Last time I went to the hairdresser’s with my sister, we both looked down on the floor and were like, “this could make some serious wig..!”
We had no idea what you do about it though. I should really do some research before next haircut!

  • Love the shorter hair. it looks amazing.
For some reason I always keep my hair short i the winter and leave it long in the summer so I have the option to put it into a pony tail. i think it has to do with it being curly and I would hate to have to straighten it every day in the summer and deal with the hear and the frizz.

  • In my professional opinion as a male, you have a super cute face and should not hide it with long hair. A lot of women can’t pull shorter hair off, you can
