Happy Friday! Have you had a good week? I’m happy to share a little interview with Krystal, who is currently traveling the world and blogging about it. Enjoy!
You’ve been doing some traveling lately! Where are you right now?
I am currently living in Stuttgart, Germany – but my home is Vancouver, BC.
When did you first get interested in your finances?
Personal finance started to become interesting to me when I started to read personal finance blogs online. It was incredible that there was a community of people out there talking about money, and that they all supported each other. It was then that I decided to make a plan to get out of over $20,000 in student loan and credit card debt in 12 months. As someone who had never taken care of her finances before, I thought it was amazing that with just a little bit of planning, I could improve my financial situation every single day – and that I was in control of my own future.
What are you tempted by the most when it comes to your money?
Getting stuck in the YOLO (you only live once) mentality. I tend to want to plan off-the-beaten path, quirky vacations and experiences – and those are often the most expensive. I really have to watch myself and ask “is this really once-in-a-lifetime, or will I be back here again?”
If I gave you $100 right now to spend, what would you buy?
I would take a few friends out for some French macaroons and really good, strong tea.
What would you say is your biggest success / accomplishment in your finances?
My biggest accomplishment is buying my first home in Vancouver. Becoming a homeowner was what really prompted me to take a look at my finances. It took 5 years of hard work and patience to pay off my debt and save for a down payment, but it was the most satisfying feeling knowing that I had achieved the goal I set for myself.
And just for fun, what’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Chocolate chip mint, with moose tracks coming in a close second.
