A Meetup of Influential Women

Happy Wednesday my friends! Today I’m excited to share a little bit about me with the Influence Network ladies. I joined the Influence Network soon after the new year and LOVE IT. It’s been a place of collaboration, inspiration, and just plain fun getting to know like-minded women. The rules are: Post 3 things about yourself, 1 thing you’ve learned using the Network, and 1 photo of yourself that you love. Here goes!

3 things about myself:
(I decided to share things that maybe my readers may not know:)

1. When I first started dating my now husband J, we found out that my grandmother 30 years earlier had introduced his parents. More on that story here.

2. I am really afraid of granddaddy long legs. And I know what you’re thinking, “Me too! I hate spiders!” But this is a serious phobia. Ask anyone that has ever lived with me.

3. When I was in 4th grade I started a newsletter for my friends that lived in different states. It had crossword puzzles and articles and was called “US Girls” (as in United States Girls, not “us” girls, even though that’s what everyone called it. Should have done my market research first.) I think I had five issues and about 50 subscribers, thanks to my aunt who signed up 45 of her friends.

1 thing I’ve learned from the Influence Network:

The Internet is a lot bigger and a lot smaller than I realized. It’s a lot bigger because wow are there so many wonderful, talented, beautiful bloggers out there! Seriously, I want to get to know every single one of those ladies. But it’s also a lot smaller. I have met girls who are friends with other blog friends I know. These women share the same fears, same insecurities, and same dreams as me. It’s such an encouraging space, and I’m so thankful for the friendships I’ve made so far.

 A photo of myself:

It’s hard to find a photo just me, (and even still, this one includes my dog), but this was taken the day after I ran the Charleston Marathon. I love this photo because it reminds me of the great accomplishment I achieved and the joy of having it behind me. Also, I love my dog. And wearing stripes.

  • Ginna. Spiders are the WORST. They are one of my phobias, for sure. Hint- get chickens. Since we’ve had them roaming around our yard, the bug count has gone way down! They love those suckers. Haven’t seen spiders inside since! :)
    Nice to meet you!

  • Girl, your newsletter idea is like my 4th grade dream realized. If only we could have co-collaborated on that project! For years I had dreams of starting my own magazine publication. :) So nice to “meet” you! ~Bri~

  • the newsletter is SO something I would have done as a child! How fun! I remember writing mystery novels and creating crosswords as a kid. Kindred spirits ;)

  • Good words friend. I’m glad you linked up and I can’t wait to get to know you more.
Speaking of fears, I worked at a summer camp for 5 years and always had to be brave when bugs showed up, because sometimes that is just what you gotta do. But one time, after all my campers were sleeping, I went into the bathroom and there was a bug of some type and I FREAKED! I made my co-counsellor come in and kill it because I just couldn’t handle it!

  • That’s so cool that your grandma introduced your husband’s parents!

I have serious arachnophobia. I feel ya. I feel ya so much on that one. Everybody thinks it’s funny to joke with me about & they don’t realize just how badly it shakes me to my marrow.

Love that photo of you! It’s good to meet you, Ginna!

  • That is so cool you started a newsletter when you were a kid-so fun! So lovely to meet you!

  • I’m the same way about mice, girl. Last winter, we had one in our house, and I actually saw it run across the floor. I started bawling!!!

  • Hi Ginna! It’s great to meet you – I can’t believe you started a newsletter when you were a kid. Foreshadowing of the blogging that was to come? I think yes.

  • That’s one reason why camping isn’t for me, unless it’s in the spring or early summer when the bugs are dead. :) Thanks so much for heading up this link-up… it’s been so great getting to know other girls in Influence!

  • That’s awesome you wrote mystery novels! Sounds like we are kindred spirits… you must have also been an Anne of Green Gables reader? :)

  • Chickens?!?! I had no idea! I’ve been trying to convince my husband to get chickens someday (just because they’re awesome), but now I have another reason!

  • ginna, that newsletter sounds seriously great. if it were still being produced, I would subscribe! I also totally agree about the blog world being both bigger + smaller than we see at first glance. one blogger I’ve been reading for a little while now, I recently found out, goes to the same church as a girl I was friends with in university — all the way across the country! [we live/went to school on the east coast in nova scotia, and they both now live/go to church on the west coast in vancouver!] and another [much bigger] blogger is friends with the father of another of my university friends!

unrelated: I love your blogging voice. I feel like we’re in the same room together, just chatting. it’s refreshing and always makes me want to come back for more!

  • Hi, Ginna! I’m linking up a few days late, but so happy to read your post. :) And that is a BEAUTIFUL photo of you! Love it! It’s been such a blessing to connect with you and get to know you, and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn together

  • So glad I found your blog through the link up! My inlaws live in Wake Forest, which is close to you? I’m so excited to read more helpful financial posts! Blessings!
