The Office finale was last Thursday, and I really loved it. I have been a fan of the show since it first started, and thought they did a fantastic job resolving the characters and finishing on a great note. My two favorite quotes were:
“There is a lot of beauty in ordinary things” – Pam
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” – Andy
I’ve been thinking about those quotes a lot in the last few days. I tend to think of my life like Andy does a lot, always pining for the past, wishing you could go back and recreate those memories. I romanticize about the good old days. Growing up neighbors with my best friends. High school pranks. College football games. Late nights studying with friends. My exciting life in DC. Our first year of marriage.
It’s hard to appreciate the season you’re in. But this season in my life is special. All of them are, and I want to be able to appreciate the ordinary, mundane, uniqueness of my life during this time while I’m in it.
So I am going to celebrate the ordinary more. Today I am celebrating a clean email inbox. The first fruit blooming on my tomato plant. New responsibilities at work. A fridge full of freshly-picked strawberries. A great nine months of small group. The wedding of a friend this weekend. The launch of summer. A written and published blog post. :)
What are you celebrating today?
I tend to always look forward so this is a good reminder to appreciate
the present. Today I am celebrating starting a couples devotional with
my husband, getting to cuddle with our two kittens, having a secure and
challenging job, and the sunny weather. :-)
